Louisville is an ever-changing city with a developing food scene. Living in a small town an hour away from Louisville, I’ve always thought Louisville has had a plethora of options. But Louisville is becoming increasingly popular on the national food scene, and these restaurants no doubt highlight some of the best grub the city has to offer.
1. Green District Salads
Green District Salads is an emerging local chain known for, you guessed it, salads! I’ve always been one of those people who are skeptical of salads. Like are they really going to taste better than the big burger I see on the table next to me? But this place makes the best salads I’ve ever had with the freshest ingredients. Order my favorite, the GD Special, or create your own salad in a Subway-esque style. This is a quick-bite restaurant offering healthier options without forsaking taste. Locations are in the Bardstown Rd, Middletown, and Downtown areas.
2. Vincenzo’s
Vincenzo’s is an upscale downtown restaurant that offers some of the best Italian in Kentucky. The building and the food both are beautiful, always presented with style. The fare at Vincenzo’s is also priced reasonably for an upscale dinner. I’d recommend any of the pasta dishes and Tiramisu for dessert.
3. Naive
Naive is located in my favorite area in Louisville, the recently revitalized East Market District, aptly known as NULU. Naive is a cafe offering locally-sourced ingredients with many vegan options available. While Naive is open for dinner, I prefer this spot for a Sunday brunch. I recommend the avocado toast and a seasonal latte.
4. Le Moo
Le Moo is well-known throughout Louisville for having the best steaks around. Opt for a traditional sirloin or the Wagyu, and neither will disappoint. Almost as famous as the steaks themselves are the weekend drag brunches. Be sure to check Le Moo’s Drag Brunch Facebook page for updates and reservations.
5. Guacamole Modern Mexican
Brightly making their debut in NULU is Guacamole Modern Mexican. This restaurant is truly unbeatable and a must for anyone coming to Louisville. This is an authentic Mexican restaurant, boasting a vibrant menu in an even trendier building. Bring a camera, because there are so many areas for photo ops inside the colorful restaurant (especially in the bathroom with a throne). The tacos, refried black beans, and especially the guacamole are phenomenal, with a large drink menu available as well.
Prepare to sip, eat, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of Guacamole Cocina. On the weekend, you might be handed sparklers while some sugar-skull clad actors make their way around the restaurant. This is the place to go in Louisville for delicious food in an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere.
